Ingredients:
4 c sugar
1 unbeaten egg white
1 plastic egg mold-any size.
Paste food coloring
Directions:
Mix sugar, egg white and coloring with a fork. Fill each half of egg mold with sugar mixture, packing it firmly. Tap it face down on a piece of wax paper. The sugar mixture should come out of the mold in a half egg shape if you packed it tight enough. Make egg shapes with all of the mixture. Let them stand until hard and dry-about 1-3 hours, depending on the size of the egg molds you used. Carefully pick the eggs up and with a spoon gently remove the softer sugar inside cutting the narrow end of the egg so that when two halves are glued together with frosting you can look inside. Inside the bottom half glue (with frosting) candy bunnies and chicks, or use scenes cut form old Easter cards. Glue the two halves together and decorate the outside with frosting, candies, silk flowers, etc. Let air dry until hard.
These are fun and inexpensive to make. I have shipped them and kept them for years.
